The next meeting of the Society will be the AGM, to be held at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, 19 April, at the Friends’ Meeting House, New Earswick (at the far end of the Folk Hall car park). After a brief business meeting, Carolyn and Katherine will talk about what they have discovered from the 1911 census about the first residents of the village. At that time there were only xxx people living in the village. Where did they work? Where did they live? Where had they come from?
The New Earswick Local History Society now has a website. We are able to update you on what the Society is doing as we look forward in the coming months to returning to activity.
The Society’s AGM for 2022 was held on 20th April at 6.30pm in the Folk Hall in New Earswick. The minutes have been posted on the web-site. The AGM was followed by a very interesting talk by Mike Smith on growing up in New Earswick and his errant father.
The Society has been been very lucky. The York branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild offered, towards the end of 2019, to include the Society’s logo – a picture of a typical group of New Earswick houses – in a hanging to be placed above the main entrance to the Folk Hall. Now it is there to be admired by all. Very many thanks to the Embroiderers’ Guild!
